Senior Consultant/Specialist Internal Medicine - Head of Department - Hobart, TAS

We are seeking interest from suitably experienced Senior Consultant/Specialist Physicians to take on a leadership role as Head of Department of Medicine in a large tertiary referral hospital.

As Head of Department, you will have overall responsibility for the functioning of the department, directly reporting to the Clinical Director of Medical and Cancer Services.

Fixed term, part time day work (with on-call), working up to 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period of 3 years.

Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to undertake a minimum of 19 hours per fortnight in clinical work with the option of increasing up to 38 hours.
Therefore, a full-time workload combining 38 hours Head of Department duties and 38 hours clinical work per fortnight is available.

The Hospital:
The 600 bed Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for the state, it provides a hospital service for a catchment of 250,000.

The Benefits:

  • Management allowance, 10% of Base Salary, pro rata
  • Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $27,535 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 per annum pro rata.
  • On call allowance 8% of Base Salary.
  • Superannuation of 11%.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And, subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs, to be negotiated upon successful appointment.

Essential Requirements
Applicants should be registered (or eligible for registration) as a specialist with AHPRA – FRACP preferred
Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
