Consultant/Specialist Anaesthetist - Brisbane, QLD

The Role:
We are looking for dedicated Consultant/Specialist Anaesthetists to work in a vital and innovative department in tropical Queensland location.  This is your opportunity to deliver high quality anaesthetic and perioperative care to patients in this large university Hospital

The role requires the applicant to undertake a broad range of anaesthetic and perioperative practice and there are opportunities to develop special clinical interests across a wide range of specialties.

Experience, capability and recency in anaesthetic and perioperative care for   patients undergoing complex procedures, with complexity commensurate with, and expected in, a tertiary referral hospital setting.

The Hospital:
The hospital has approximately 600 inpatient beds and takes referrals for its tertiary services. The University Hospital provides, complex, high-level services across a wide range of specialities including cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, adult and paediatric ICU, general surgery, medicine, radiation and medical oncology, transplant haematology, paediatrics, obstetrics, and neonatology to the region. This is the only tertiary facility in Queensland to offer all these services within the one hospital.

There are currently 14 operating theatres with approximately 16,000 procedures performed per year. In addition, the Anaesthetic Department provides out-of-theatre anaesthetic support for endoscopy, bronchoscopy, interventional cardiology, interventional neuroradiology and endovascular clot retrieval, radiation oncology, medical imaging, mental health, birth suite, and runs the acute pain service.

The Department of Anaesthesia has a current senior staff of 50 consultant anaesthetists (25 full time specialists, 14 part-time staff specialists and 11 VMOs). There are 24 anaesthetic registrars (incl. GP, ED and ICU trainees) and 5 RMOs attached to the department.  Subspecialty senior staff rosters are in place for cardiac anaesthetics, paediatric anaesthetics and hyperbaric medicine.

The department is approved by ANZCA for three years of training and is the tertiary hub for the Northern rotation as overseen by the Queensland Anaesthetic Rotational Training Scheme (QARTS).

Essential:
Qualified as a medical practitioner with specialist qualifications and registration, or eligible for registration, as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in the appropriate discipline.

Fellowship of ANZCA with appropriate AHPRA registration. Candidates who will be obtaining fellowship in the near future are encouraged to apply.

Salary:

  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading
